Title: Leopard in a Tree

Location: Erindi, Namibia

This leopard cub was relaxing in a shepherds tree after feeding on a kill his mother brought to him. All we could see was his tail hanging out of the tree and we had no clear view of him. This is where the patience of being a wildlife photographer comes into play, the waiting game. We drove around the tree a few times to see if there was any gap at all. I saw a small gap in the tree roughly where I believed his head to be resting just out of sight. I lined up this little gap to make sure I have the best possible chance of capturing a photo of him if he had to lift up his head.

The sun was starting to set and the general rule of thumb in the African bush is most predators become active once the heat of the day starts to dissipate, so all we could do was wait for him to become active before the sun completely set. The only movement we got in the two hours was his tail flicking up and down to get rid of the annoying flies. Suddenly his head lifted, my prediction was right, his head filled the gap perfectly and I was ready to take the photo.

In the moment I wasn’t entirely impressed with the composition, however when arriving back to camp and reviewing the photo I actually really liked it. The little gap created this perfect from for his face and I noticed he had some blood on his nose from feeding on the kill earlier.

Having patience when it comes to photographing wildlife really does pay off.

All printing and shipping is handled by The Print Space in London. Prints will be shipped worldwide from their UK or Germany studios depending on your location.

Prints are shipped in either a reinforced tube or crumble proof packaging to ensure safe delivery.
